Analysis Of David Weaver s Ecotourism - 1626 Words

David Weaver is a professor at Griffith University on the Gold Coast in Australia. He has a Ph.D. in Geography and has over 30 years of experience regarding tourism – and his specialities are within the areas of ecotourism, sustainable tourism and destination management. He has been both teaching and researching during his 30 years in the field, and also published academic books and other research materials. Some of his books are currently used in tourism courses at universities worldwide. There is a course called Globally Responsible Tourism at the Norwegian School of Hotel Management in Stavanger, which is mandatory for students studying a bachelor degree in tourism management. In this course Professor Weaver’s ecotourism book is used as the textbook, and in light of this course we became interested in sustainability and ecotourism in the first place. Luckily, he was teaching at the university we did our exchange semester at, and due to that we got the opportunity to interview him in person for this bachelor thesis. As already mentioned, the research question for this bachelor thesis is about how GBR can be seen as a sustainable destination. To figure this out, it is important to understand how tourism or visitors affect the GBR. HIV/AIDS IN NIGERIA Introduction The first case of HIV was reported in 1981 and since then, it has spread rapidly turning into a pandemic (WHO 2014). Thirty-five million people currently live with HIV worldwide and 2.1 million deaths were recorded in 2013 (WHO 2014). HIV in the WHO African region is the highest in the world as the continent bears 70% of the disease burden (WHO AFRO 2013). In 2013, 24 million people in Africa were reported to be living with HIV. One of the high burden countries in this region is Nigeria and it ranks as the second highest after South Africa (WHO AFRO 2013). Despite the efforts on the international and local fronts to curb this epidemic, the continuous rise in new cases has shown that more needs to be done.†¦show more content†¦Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome is the terminal stage of the HIV infection however with essential treatment not every infected individual gets to this stage. HIV is transmitted through transfusion of infected blood, sexual intercourse, sharing contam inated needles, during childbirth from mother to child and during breastfeeding (WHO 2014). Nigeria has an estimated population of 174 million people and 3.7% of this population are living with HIV/AIDS. Two hundred and ten thousand people died as a result of HIV/AIDS in 2011 (UNAID 2012). The first case of HIV in Nigeria was reported in 1986 and since then several programmes have been planned and implemented (NACA 2014). Nevertheless we are nowhere near eliminating the emergence of incidence cases considering the fact that there is no available cure for the disease (WHO AFRO 2013). Despite this, a reduction in prevalence was observed from 5.8% in 2001 to 4.1 % in 2010 and it highlights that it is possible to reduce prevalence by preventing the continuous transmission of the disease (NACA 2014). Therefore, there is need to restructure the existing policies and adopt new approaches to tackling this burdensome public health concern in Nigeria. Knowledge and awareness of HIV among the Nigerian population is very high based on the report of Lammers et al. (2013) where it was reported that 89.5% of Nigerians are aware of HIV. Often underestimated, the arts have time and time again proven that they are powerful. The arts in all and any of its forms has the power to move masses, it has the power to either end or start movements. Adolf Hitler knew the power the arts had, he knew that controlling art would allow him to control culture and in turn allow him to control people. Immigration is the act of foreigners passing or coming into a country for the purpose of permanent residence. â€Å"Some people say that immigration is the next major issue the country must face,† but the question remains. Is immigration a problem we must face? There are some bad effects like greater poverty and education costs, but the good certainly outweighs the bad. Also, the site can be updated to always provide the latest information. Although is the fastest means of acquiring useful information about Cadbury World, the internet also has its disadvantages. For example, companies that have websites face clutter. Because of the high number of advertisements and websites, it may be difficult for researchers to locate, especially if there are many similar sites. A connection to the web is needed to access the information, which will be impossible if a computer and connection is not available. Lastly, the site may go down or the computer may crash which causes the loss of information.

Still, the two martial arts, serve its purpose, but presently have additional purposes which are for physical fitness and spiritual and mental focus. Although the two might appear very similar, they are strikingly different. Unfortunately, many people dont know this and cant differentiate the two. , for one, became interested in differentiating the two to know which arterial art will be suitable for me; because am planning to learn one of the two in the near future. After some research, have found that both Karate and Teakwood are great martial arts, but they are different in origin, moves, and purpose. Karate and Teakwood are often mistaken to have the same origin or their origins are Often mixed up. Karate was developed in the Rusk Islands, but the island of Okinawa is considered to be its birthplace (Critter 101 , 2009). Thus, Critter 101 stated that its various styles were all rooted from the Okinawa style systems. Meanwhile, Teakwood started in Korea and was enhanced when the country was occupied by the Japanese. It just became systematic martial art after the Second World War (Teakwood-information. Org, 2009). Another difference of Karate and Teakwood are its moves, On one hand, Karate is comprised of punches, strikes, blocks, and kicks to make the entire human body a weapon. These techniques are combined with evasive footwork maneuvers and joint locks to create a hand-to-hand or hand-to-weapon combat method of basic self-defense, In addition to that, training and understanding he basic moves can deliver one of the most devastating strikes to any attacker rendering them incapacitated (Nichols, 2009). On the other hand, a lot of the Teakwood moves are about striking people using the legs and most of the moves involved spin around kicks, flying kicks, open handed strikes, system of blocks and punches. Aside from that, Tea Swoon Do believes that the leg is the most important weapon that a martial artist has and since it is the longest it has more chances of hitting the target compared to the arms (Sitting, 2008). Lastly, the two martial arts both are for self-defense, but they certainly differ in Other purposes. The Other purpose Of Karate is to make the body like iron or as hard as a rock and the hands and feet used like points of arrows. This is because it the only weapon used in a right that should be reasonable. Karate fighters arent allowed to get into fights without any reason (Toots, 1908). Meanwhile, the other purpose of Teakwood is perceived as a way of life. This is because it involves discipline, technique and mental training, resulting in a strong sense of inference, spirit and character (Mamas Health. Com). Overall, I prefer to take Teakwood, although there is the reality that both do many Of the same forms as the Other _ In addition to that, they both require athleticism, stamina, and discipline. The differentiation is that the higher kicks in Teakwood are not suitable for all people (Wiseacres). Even though Teakwood might sound more difficult, my preference for it wont change, because I like to be challenged.
